Get Your Organization Involved in a Food Drive

Have a friendly competition or inter-office/department challenges to increase drive success. For example, human resources is challenging accounting to a tuna can drive…who can collect the most of a specific item.
Consider a themed drive for each week: Raisin Rally, Granola Gathering, Pudding & Peanut Butter Party, Spaghettio’s Stockpile, PB&J Jackpot, etc.

Helpful Tips to Make Your Food Drive a Success

      • Print and post a list of suggested food donations.
      • Hold your food drive for 2-4 weeks.
      • Wrap collection boxes in kid friendly paper and attach the suggested shopping lists to each bin in a clear envelope.
      • Email or post local sales for specific items on employee cork boards, newsletters, pay check envelopes, etc.
      • Contact Food4Kids to find out what items are in need and/or shortages
      • Have a team designated to emptying the bins, weighing and counting the items and posting results regularly w/ reminders to increase last minute donations.
      • Consider separating and counting each item to keep accurate count. Weight isn’t as important for our program as we pack specific regular items each week. Canned goods weigh more than granola bars but we actually need more granola bars and raisins each week than canned goods (one canned good feeds multiple kids)
      • Offer to take up a monetary collection for individuals who do not want to purchase items, but would like to support the drive.
      • Take pictures! They are a great way to announce your organization’s participation and results. Use them in newsletters, Facebook posts and websites. Be sure to send your photos to Food4Kids so that we can post them and give you recognition for all your hard work.
      • Food4Kids can arrange to pick up the items from you or meet you at a convenient location if you are able to deliver them (which is especially helpful to our limited number of volunteers).
